More Information About Elete™ Sport Minerals

    Electrolytes for Athletes

Individuals who engage in regular and intense physical activities, such as endurance sports like cycling and running, as well as rowers, tennis players, and team sports enthusiasts, can benefit from the supplementation of electrolytes. Elete™ Sport Minerals provides a natural supplement of these electrolytes, without sugars, sweeteners, and calories.

    What Are Electrolytes Exactly?

Electrolytes are minerals dissolved in a liquid in ionic form (meaning not in connection with other elements but as separate electrically charged particles). For instance, table salt (sodium chloride) when dissolved in water is split into ions Na+ (positively charged sodium) and Cl- (negatively charged chloride). In this way, minerals also exist in our bodies, dissolved in intra- and extracellular fluids like blood plasma, and they play a role in various processes. Examples of essential electrolytes include sodium, potassium, magnesium, and chloride. When an individual sweats a lot, significant amounts of sodium are lost, and to a lesser extent, other electrolytes are also lost because they come out with perspiration fluid.

     Fluid and Electrolyte Balance

The body primarily loses sodium (and chloride) through sweat because sodium is mainly extracellular (found in the bloodstream), while potassium and magnesium are primarily intracellular. Maintaining both the proper fluid and electrolyte balance is crucial for the body.

If an athlete only drinks water to compensate for fluid loss but does not replenish sodium, the blood will become 'diluted,' and the relative concentration of sodium ions will decrease. This can have consequences for normal physiological function. Therefore, it is essential to also intake extra sodium during exercise to replenish the lost sodium. It is even better to supplement chloride and small amounts of potassium and magnesium.

     Function of Magnesium and Potassium

Magnesium plays a crucial role in the activity of certain enzymes involved in energy metabolism, supporting overall energy levels. For instance, magnesium is part of the magnesium-ATP complex, essential for releasing energy from ATP (the cell's energy carrier). It is also involved in nerve signal transmission, crucial for the normal functioning and contraction of muscles, including the heart muscle. Additionally, magnesium can assist in reducing fatigue and contribute to clear thinking and mental sharpness.

Similarly, potassium is involved in nerve signal transmission, ensuring proper muscle function and contraction. It also has a positive impact on blood pressure by playing a role in various blood pressure-regulating processes, such as vasodilation.

Great Salt Lake: Source of Elete™ Sport Minerals

Elete™ Sport Minerals derives its unique power from the mineral-rich water sourced from the Great Salt Lake in Utah, USA. This inland sea contains very high concentrations of ionic minerals and trace elements due to geothermal and evaporation processes, creating a natural and balanced composition. Additionally, extra potassium has been added.

Suitable for Elite Athletes, Doping Tested

Elete™ Sport Minerals undergoes doping testing according to the NZVT system (Dutch Security System for Food Supplements in Top Sports). This system controls supplements to minimize the risk of a positive doping test. Each newly produced batch of Elete™ Sport Minerals is checked through this procedure. NZVT-tested products provide the most assurance of not containing doping-specified substances. You can check if a product has been tested in the NZVT database using the batch code and THT (Best Before) date. Not all products are tested in every batch. Products that are tested in every batch can be identified in the database by the "infinity" symbol. For more information, visit Dopingautoriteit - NZVT.
